Biography
Research interests
I am Professor of Cosmology at the Institute for Astronomy, of which I was Head between and This Institute is part of the School of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Edinburgh, and is also part of the Scottish Universities Physics Alliance.
My research interests are in theoretical and observational cosmology: large-scale structure; galaxy formation and evolution; evolution of active galaxies; gravitational lensing.
I was the UK Chairman of the 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey, which transformed our knowledge of galaxy clustering in the early years of the 21st Century, winning the RAS Group Achievement Award.
I am a Fellow of the Royal Society and the Royal Society of Edinburgh, and the author of the postgraduate textbook 'Cosmological Physics'.
